Ustad Ali
Ahmed Hossain Khan & Pandit Ramesh Mishra
As
an example of total dedication, depth and maturity, Pandit Ramesh
Misra is a phenomenon in the field of Indian classical music.
Having mastered one of the most difficult and unique string
instruments, namely the 'Sarangi', Pandit Misra is acclaimed
as an outstanding Indian musical treasure. He started his initial
intensive training at a very tender age, tutored by his father,
Pandit Ramnath Misra, with advanced training continuing under
the legendary maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar. Pandit Misra's aesthetic
sense and artistic sensibilities have brought him recognition
both at home and abroad as an eminent soloist as well as an adept
accompanist, and his music has enthralled global audiences. Besides
a receiving the prestigious Sangeet Natak award from India's
National Academy of Music and Dance, Pandit Misra has also been
honored as a musical emissary for India, and has frequently been
part of cultural delegations, at the request of several Prime
Ministers.
Ustad Ali Ahmed Hosain Khan is a master of the "shehnai,"
a double reed wind instrument that is closest in timbre to the
Saxophone. A listener who once heard him play for the first
time later wrote that he "felt like I had been given a glimpse
of heaven." Ustad Ali Ahmed Khan's absolute mastery of
the raga form and of his craft makes him an artist who stands
alongside Ravi Shankar, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Shivkumar Sharma
and Rais Khan, among other great innovators of Hindustani music
forms. Ustad Ali Ahmed Khan is also a man of legendary simplicity,
which, to those who know him well, springs from his utter devotion
to his craft and the complete sublimation of his self in his
music.
