Reena and Rajeeb
Chakraborty
Reena and Rajeeb Chakraborty
come from a family where music has always been an integral part
of their tradition. Their father, Shri Rabi Chakraborty, an eminent
exponent of the Senia Maihar Gahrana, sensed their aptitude for
music, and became their guru and introduced Reena to the Sitar
and Rajeeb to the Sarod.
Reena is a graduate from Calcutta University and Rajeeb has a Masters degree in music. Both have received the National Scholarship for instrumental music. Reena and Rajeeb have performed for over a decade now, including at major music festivals in India and abroad. As a team, their duet performances have mesmerized audiences and critics alike and won them critical acclaim. A critic once described their performance as that of virtuosity, devotion and fire and went on to say that their prowess was so sensitive that each note had an ethereal quality to it.
Reena and Rajeebs consummate technical expertise and spontaneous aesthetic sparkle have enabled them to spread their wings and soar to new heights of creative splendour. Their swabhaba (innate technical virtuosity) merges effortlessly with their Shristi (creative imagination) in their Jugalbandi.
