Prashant Manikal

Prashant Manikal has been a volunteer with ICMCA since 2005. He has been an ICMCA Committee member since 2006. A native of Mumbai, India, he has learned to play the tabla from Pandit Sadanand Naimpally during his childhood. He is currently a disciple of tabla maestro Shri Gourisankarji in Austin at the School of Indian Percussion and Music (www.austintabla.com). He works at IBM . His other passions include mountaineering, cross-country skiing and all things outdoors.

Subir Mukherjee
Vice-President

Subir Mukherjee has been with ICMCA’s committee since 2003. Subir was born in the US, but having been born in a musical family, Subir has always enjoyed listening to Indian Classical Music. In his spare time, Subir plays the tabla and is currently learning from Gourisankar Karmakar at the School of Indian Percussion and Music.

Abhishek Singh
Secretary

Abhishek Singh has been a volunteer for ICMCA since October, 2007. Before that, he was a core-member for the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, from 2003 to 2007. Abhishek was born and raised in the city of Lucknow, at one time the cultural center of Northern India. His exposure to music started when he was a toddler — listening to Kumar Gandharva’s Nirguni Bhajans in his uncle’s car. Since then, interest has grown to passion, and (as his wife often reminds him) passion to obsession! His “Holy Trinity” includes Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur, Ganasaraswati Kishori Amonkar, and the inimitable Pandit Kumar Gandharva. His one big regret in life is that he never learned music formally, when growing up. He is trying to make up for lost time and has recently started taking Hindustani vocal lessons. Abhishek’s non-musical persona is that of an environmental scientist at an environmental consultancy called INTERA, Inc.

Currently, she works in Austin and nurtures her interest in the arts by participating in and supporting local cultural events.
